What is it used for?
Letrozole is mainly used to treat certain types of breast cancer in women after menopause. It may also be prescribed by a specialist to help induce ovulation in some fertility treatments.

How does it work?
Letrozole lowers the body’s production of oestrogen. This can slow or stop the growth of some breast cancer cells and may help trigger ovulation in fertility treatment.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water and take it at the same time each day. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Hot flushes, sweating, tiredness, headache, dizziness, nausea, joint or muscle pain, increased cholesterol, and thinning or weakening of the bones may occur.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy unless specifically directed by a specialist; it can harm an unborn baby. It is generally not used for breast cancer treatment before menopause unless prescribed by a specialist. Tell the doctor about liver or kidney problems, osteoporosis, or a history of fractures. Long-term treatment may require bone-health monitoring. Seek medical advice if severe dizziness, unusual bone pain, or symptoms of a fracture occur.
