What is it used for?
Levetiracetam injection is used to prevent and control epileptic seizures. It may be given in hospital when levetiracetam tablets or oral liquid cannot be taken.

How does it work?
It reduces abnormal electrical activity in the brain that can cause seizures, helping to prevent them.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type of seizures, age, kidney function and medical condition. Do not stop treatment suddenly unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Sleepiness, dizziness, headache, weakness, nausea, and irritability or other mood or behaviour changes may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney problems, previous allergies to levetiracetam, or a history of depression or other mental health problems. Report severe mood or behaviour changes, aggression, confusion, hallucinations, or thoughts of self-harm promptly. Seek urgent help for swelling of the face or throat, breathing difficulty, or a severe skin rash.
