What is it used for?
Levetiracetam is an anti-seizure medicine used to prevent and control seizures in people with epilepsy, including focal seizures and certain generalized seizures. It may be used alone or with other anti-seizure medicines, as prescribed.

How does it work?
It helps reduce abnormal electrical activity in the brain by acting on a nerve-cell protein involved in the release of chemical signals.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same times each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not stop taking it suddenly, as seizures may worsen. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Sleepiness, dizziness, headache, tiredness, nausea, and irritability or other mood changes may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or any history of depression or other mental-health problems. Seek medical advice for severe mood or behaviour changes, thoughts of self-harm, worsening seizures, or signs of an allergic reaction. Avoid driving or operating machinery until its effects are known, and avoid alcohol unless the doctor advises otherwise.
