What is it used for?
Levetiracetam oral solution is used to prevent and control seizures in people with epilepsy. It may be used alone or with other anti-seizure medicines, depending on the type of seizure.

How does it work?
It helps reduce abnormal electrical activity in the brain and lowers the likelihood of seizures. Its action is linked to regulating the release of chemical signals between nerve cells.

How to take/use it
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed. Measure each dose with the supplied measuring device, not a household spoon. Take it regularly and do not stop suddenly, as this may make seizures worse. If a dose is missed, follow the prescriber’s instructions.

Common side effects
Sleepiness, dizziness, headache, tiredness, weakness, nausea and reduced appetite may occur. Irritability, agitation or other mood and behaviour changes can also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or any history of mood or behaviour problems. Avoid driving or operating machinery until the effect is known. Seek medical help for severe rash, swelling or breathing difficulty, or new or worsening depression, aggression, unusual behaviour or thoughts of self-harm. Medical advice is needed before stopping treatment.
