What is it used for?
Linezolid is a prescription antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections, including some infections of the lungs, skin and soft tissues, and infections caused by resistant Gram-positive bacteria. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and survive.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food. Do not share it or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, stomach upset and changes in taste may occur. With longer treatment, reduced blood cell counts can occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about all medicines being used, especially antidepressants, opioid pain medicines and other medicines that affect serotonin, because serious interactions can occur. Blood tests may be needed during treatment. Seek medical advice for unusual bruising or bleeding, severe diarrhoea, vision changes, numbness or tingling, repeated vomiting, or unusual weakness. Use only under medical supervision, particularly for treatment lasting more than 2 weeks.
