What is it used for?
Atorvastatin is used to lower high cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It also helps reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at increased cardiovascular risk.

How does it work?
It reduces the liver's production of cholesterol by blocking an enzyme involved in cholesterol formation. This lowers harmful LDL cholesterol in the blood.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and swallow it with water. It may be taken with or without food. Take it regularly and do not stop it without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, indigestion, diarrhoea, and muscle aches may occur. Contact a doctor promptly for severe or persistent muscle pain or weakness.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, heavy alcohol use, or any unexplained muscle problems. Inform the doctor about all other medicines, as some can interact with atorvastatin. It should generally not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically advised. Seek urgent medical advice for severe muscle weakness, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
