What is it used for?
This medicine is prescribed to lower cholesterol and help reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people with cardiovascular disease or who are at high cardiovascular risk.

How does it work?
Atorvastatin lowers harmful cholesterol made by the liver. Aspirin reduces the ability of blood platelets to stick together and form clots.

How to take/use it
Take it by mouth exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day if advised. Swallow the capsule with water and do not stop treatment or take an extra dose without medical advice.

Common side effects
Muscle aches, headache, indigestion, nausea, and easier bruising or bleeding.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about a history of stomach ulcers, bleeding problems, liver disease, asthma triggered by aspirin or painkillers, or muscle problems. Avoid using other aspirin-containing or blood-thinning medicines unless advised. Seek urgent medical help for unusual or heavy bleeding, black stools, vomiting blood, severe muscle pain or weakness, dark urine, or an allergic reaction. Atorvastatin should generally not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless specifically advised.
