What is it used for?
Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections, including some infections of the lungs, skin and soft tissues, and infections caused by resistant bacteria. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food. Do not share it or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache and a change in taste may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially antidepressants, opioid pain medicines or other medicines that affect serotonin or blood pressure. Blood tests may be needed during treatment, particularly if treatment continues for more than a short period. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, unusual bruising or bleeding, vision changes, numbness or tingling, or severe weakness.
