What is it used for?
Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by certain Gram-positive bacteria, including some types of pneumonia, skin and soft-tissue infections, and infections caused by vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE). It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not take more or for longer than advised. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, and changes in taste.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially antidepressants or other medicines that affect serotonin, and medicines used for high blood pressure. Linezolid may affect blood counts, especially during longer treatment, so monitoring may be advised. Seek medical help for unusual bruising or bleeding, severe diarrhoea, repeated vomiting, numbness or tingling, vision changes, severe weakness, or confusion. Avoid large amounts of mature or aged foods unless advised otherwise.
