What is it used for?
Losartan is mainly used to treat high blood pressure. It may also be prescribed to help protect the kidneys in some people with type 2 diabetes and kidney disease, or to reduce the risk of stroke in certain people with high blood pressure.

How does it work?
It blocks the action of angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels and raises blood pressure. This helps relax the blood vessels and lower blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food. Continue it regularly even if feeling well, and do not stop it without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, tiredness, low blood pressure, diarrhoea, and back pain may occur. Contact a doctor if side effects are severe or persistent.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy; inform the doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, or use of potassium supplements, potassium-containing salt substitutes, or medicines such as NSAID painkillers. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels may be needed. Seek medical help for swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing.
