What is it used for?
This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) when treatment with one medicine alone is not enough. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of related heart and blood vessel problems.

How does it work?
Losartan relaxes blood vessels by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance that can raise blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water, which also lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and at the same time each day. It may be taken with or without food; swallow the tablet with water. Do not stop treatment or change the dose without medical advice.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, tiredness, increased urination, low blood pressure, and changes in blood potassium or other body salts may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, gout, diabetes, or previous high or low potassium levels. Avoid potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes unless advised. This medicine should not be used during pregnancy; contact a doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Inform the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially other blood-pressure medicines, diuretics, anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen, or lithium. Rise slowly if dizziness occurs, and seek medical help for severe weakness, fainting, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
