What is it used for?
Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by certain Gram-positive bacteria, including some types of pneumonia, skin and soft-tissue infections, and infections caused by vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE).

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given slowly into a vein by a healthcare professional. It should be used only as prescribed, and the treatment course should not be stopped without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, and changes in blood counts such as anaemia or low platelets.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about any blood disorder, liver or kidney problem, or allergy to linezolid. Medicines such as antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, and some cold or decongestant medicines may interact with linezolid. Blood tests may be needed, especially during prolonged treatment. Seek medical help for unusual bruising or bleeding, severe or persistent diarrhoea, vision changes, numbness, or weakness.
