What is it used for?
Amoxycillin with clavulanate is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, and other parts of the body. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxycillin kills bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall. Clavulanate helps protect amoxycillin from enzymes made by some bacteria, allowing it to work against a wider range of bacteria.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by injection into a vein or muscle by a doctor or other healthcare professional. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of the infection, kidney function and other medical factors. Complete the prescribed course unless advised otherwise.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash and pain or redness at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there is a history of serious allergy to penicillin, amoxycillin, clavulanate or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease, previous antibiotic-related jaundice or liver problems, and any medicines being taken. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe skin rash, persistent or bloody diarrhoea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
