What is it used for?
Used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, sinuses, throat, lungs, skin, urinary tract and teeth, when prescribed by a healthcare professional. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxycillin kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Potassium clavulanate helps protect amoxycillin from enzymes made by some bacteria, allowing it to work against a wider range of infections.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, preferably with a meal to reduce stomach upset. Complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Do not share it or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, indigestion, skin rash and thrush may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to amoxycillin, penicillins or related antibiotics. Inform the healthcare professional about kidney or liver problems and any previous antibiotic-related jaundice or liver problems. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, a severe skin reaction, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Tell the healthcare professional about other medicines, especially blood thinners such as warfarin or methotrexate.
