What is it used for?
Amoxycillin with potassium clavulanate is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ears, sinuses, throat, lungs, skin, urinary tract or teeth. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxycillin kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall. Potassium clavulanate helps amoxycillin work against bacteria that can otherwise resist it.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably with a meal to reduce stomach upset. Complete the prescribed course, even if feeling better, and do not share the medicine with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, skin rash and thrush may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to penicillin, amoxycillin, other beta-lactam antibiotics or any ingredient. Tell the doctor about previous antibiotic-related jaundice or liver problems, kidney problems, or glandular fever. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, a severe skin rash, persistent or bloody diarrhoea, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
