What is it used for?
Amoxycillin with potassium clavulanate is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, sinuses, throat, lungs, skin, urinary tract and teeth. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxycillin kills bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall. Clavulanate helps protect amoxycillin from enzymes made by some bacteria, allowing it to work against a wider range of infections.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by the doctor. Shake the suspension well before each use and measure each dose with the supplied measuring device. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not use leftover medicine or share it with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, indigestion, skin rash and oral or vaginal thrush may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there is a history of serious allergy to penicillin, amoxycillin, other beta-lactam antibiotics or any of its ingredients. Tell the doctor about previous antibiotic-related liver problems, kidney disease or glandular fever. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, a severe skin rash, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Take only for a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection as directed by a doctor.
