What is it used for?
Meropenem is a prescription antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs, abdomen, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, and other parts of the body. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills bacteria by preventing them from forming the protective cell wall they need to survive.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of the infection, kidney function, and medical advice. Complete the prescribed course unless the doctor advises otherwise.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, headache, rash, and pain or inflammation at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to meropenem, penicillin, cephalosporins or other antibiotics, kidney disease, or a history of seizures. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or seizures. Use only under medical supervision.
