What is it used for?
Mesalamine 1200 mg used rectally helps reduce inflammation in the rectum and lower bowel caused by ulcerative colitis, including ulcerative proctitis.

How does it work?
It acts mainly on the lining of the bowel to reduce the release of substances that cause inflammation.

How to take/use it
Use rectally only, exactly as prescribed and according to the product instructions. Do not swallow it. Wash hands before and after use, and complete the prescribed treatment unless advised otherwise.

Common side effects
Headache, abdominal pain or cramps, nausea, diarrhoea, gas, and rectal discomfort or irritation may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about allergies to mesalamine, aspirin, or other salicylates, and about kidney or liver disease. Medical monitoring may be needed during treatment. Seek urgent medical help for severe rash, breathing difficulty, severe abdominal pain, worsening bloody diarrhoea, or markedly reduced urine.
