What is it used for?
Methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation and overactivity of the immune system. It may be prescribed for inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, severe allergies, arthritis, and certain skin or breathing problems.

How does it work?
It reduces the release of substances that cause inflammation and suppresses excessive immune reactions.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed, preferably with food to reduce stomach irritation. Do not stop treatment suddenly, especially if it has been used for a longer period; the dose may need to be reduced gradually by a doctor.

Common side effects
Stomach upset, increased appetite, difficulty sleeping, mood changes, headache, swelling due to fluid retention, and increased blood sugar or blood pressure may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about diabetes, high blood pressure, stomach ulcers, osteoporosis, glaucoma, mental health problems, or any infection. Methylprednisolone can reduce resistance to infection and may mask infection symptoms. Avoid live vaccines unless specifically advised by a doctor. Seek medical advice for signs of infection or severe mood changes.
