What is it used for?
Metoprolol succinate extended-release is used to treat high blood pressure and certain heart conditions, such as angina (chest pain), fast or irregular heartbeat, and heart failure. The exact use depends on the condition prescribed by the doctor.

How does it work?
It is a beta-blocker that slows the heart rate and reduces the force of the heartbeat. This lowers blood pressure and reduces the heart’s workload.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day. Swallow the extended-release tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Do not stop it suddenly without medical advice.

Common side effects
Tiredness, dizziness, slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, cold hands or feet, nausea, and shortness of breath may occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is a very slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, asthma or other breathing problems, diabetes, poor circulation, or heart failure. It may mask some warning signs of low blood sugar. Rise slowly if dizzy, and seek medical advice for fainting, worsening breathing difficulty, swelling, or a very slow heartbeat. Do not stop treatment suddenly.
