What is it used for?
Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including some infections of the lungs, sinuses, skin and abdomen. It does not work against viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by blocking enzymes needed for bacterial DNA replication and repair.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by a doctor and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food, if this is the prescribed form. Do not take it together with antacids or supplements containing aluminium, magnesium, iron, calcium or zinc; ask a pharmacist or doctor about suitable spacing.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness and vomiting may occur.

Precautions
Seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, numbness or tingling, severe or persistent diarrhoea, palpitations, fainting, rash or breathing difficulty. Tell the doctor about heart rhythm problems, tendon disorders, seizures, myasthenia gravis, diabetes, aortic aneurysm risk, kidney or liver problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all medicines being taken. Avoid driving if dizzy or affected. Use only when prescribed, because unnecessary antibiotic use can cause resistance.
