What is it used for?
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the ear, throat, chest, skin, urinary tract and teeth. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food. Do not share leftover antibiotics with others.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to amoxycillin, penicillin or related antibiotics. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe skin reaction. Contact a doctor if diarrhoea is severe or persistent. Use only under medical advice, especially during pregnancy, breastfeeding or if there is kidney disease.
