What is it used for?
Amoxycillin is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It does not work for viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food. Do not share leftover antibiotics with others.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to amoxycillin, penicillin or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, a severe rash, or persistent or bloody diarrhoea.
