What is it used for?
Amoxycillin with clavulanate is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, throat, sinuses, chest, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxycillin kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall. Clavulanate helps amoxycillin work against bacteria that can otherwise resist it.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Taking it with food may help reduce stomach upset. Do not share it or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to penicillin, amoxycillin, clavulanate or related antibiotics. Tell the doctor about liver disease, kidney disease or previous antibiotic-related jaundice. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, a severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
