What is it used for?
Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial skin infections, such as impetigo and infected cuts, wounds or sores.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making essential proteins, which prevents them from growing and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
For external use only. Apply to the affected skin exactly as directed by the doctor or product label. Wash hands before and after use, and avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes. Do not use inside the nose unless specifically prescribed for that purpose.

Common side effects
Mild burning, stinging, itching, redness or irritation at the application site.

Precautions
Do not use if allergic to mupirocin or any ingredient. Stop using it and seek medical advice if severe irritation, swelling or a rash develops. Avoid prolonged or repeated use unless advised by a doctor. Seek medical advice if the infection worsens or does not improve as expected.
