What is it used for?
Prochlorperazine is mainly used to control nausea and vomiting. It may also be prescribed for severe dizziness or vertigo.

How does it work?
It blocks dopamine signals in areas of the brain that trigger nausea and vomiting. It also reduces abnormal signals involved in vertigo.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the tablet with water and do not take more than directed. It may cause drowsiness, so avoid driving or using machinery until its effects are known. Avoid alcohol.

Common side effects
Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision and headache. It may also cause restlessness, muscle stiffness or tremors.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, glaucoma, prostate or urinary problems, liver disease, heart rhythm problems, or a history of involuntary movements. Seek urgent medical help for severe muscle stiffness, high fever, confusion, fainting, or uncontrolled movements.
