What is it used for?
Nifedipine SR is used to treat high blood pressure and to help prevent or relieve angina (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart).

How does it work?
It is a calcium-channel blocker that relaxes and widens blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow to the heart.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day. Swallow the SR tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew or break it. Do not stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, flushing, dizziness, palpitations, constipation, and swelling of the ankles or feet.

Precautions
It may cause dizziness, especially when starting treatment; take care when driving or standing up. Tell the doctor about low blood pressure, heart problems, liver disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice unless advised otherwise. Seek urgent medical help for severe dizziness, fainting, worsening chest pain or difficulty breathing.
