What is it used for?
Norfloxacin is a prescription antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, especially urinary tract infections and some bacterial intestinal infections. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the enzymes needed for their growth and multiplication, helping clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the recommended course, even if symptoms improve. Swallow with water and follow the product or prescriber’s instructions about food. Keep it separate from antacids and mineral supplements containing iron, calcium, magnesium or zinc, as these can reduce absorption. Do not self-medicate.

Common side effects
Nausea, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and altered taste may occur.

Precautions
Stop taking it and seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, severe or persistent diarrhoea, numbness or tingling, severe mood or nervous-system changes, rash, breathing difficulty or other signs of a serious allergic reaction. Use only on medical advice during pregnancy, breastfeeding, in children, or if there is a history of tendon problems, seizures, heart-rhythm problems or kidney disease. Avoid unnecessary strenuous exercise during treatment and shortly afterwards. It may increase sensitivity to sunlight.
