What is it used for?
Used to treat certain serious bacterial infections when ofloxacin is prescribed for intravenous treatment. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Ofloxacin is an antibiotic that stops bacteria from making the enzymes needed for their growth and reproduction. Sodium chloride provides the sterile saline solution for infusion.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given slowly into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function and medical advice. It should not be self-administered.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness and pain or irritation at the infusion site.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about any allergy to ofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics, kidney problems, epilepsy, heart rhythm problems or a history of tendon problems. Seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, severe or persistent diarrhoea, numbness or tingling, severe dizziness, palpitations, breathing difficulty or a serious rash. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if specifically prescribed.
