What is it used for?
Ofloxacin + ornidazole is used to treat certain mixed bacterial and protozoal infections, especially infectious diarrhoea and dysentery, when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
Ofloxacin kills susceptible bacteria by blocking enzymes they need to multiply. Ornidazole damages the genetic material of certain parasites and anaerobic bacteria.

How to take/use it
Take only as prescribed and complete the recommended course. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Avoid taking it at the same time as antacids or supplements containing aluminium, magnesium, calcium or iron; ask a pharmacist about suitable spacing. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 3 days after the last dose.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and a metallic or unpleasant taste.

Precautions
Do not use if allergic to ofloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics, ornidazole or similar medicines. Seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, severe or persistent diarrhoea, numbness or tingling, seizures, confusion, or severe allergic symptoms. Tell the doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver disease, seizures, nerve problems, or a history of tendon disorders before use.
