What is it used for?
Omeprazole reduces excess stomach acid. It is mainly used to relieve acidity and heartburn, including symptoms caused by acid reflux, and may also be used for stomach ulcers as directed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It blocks the stomach’s acid-producing proton pumps, thereby reducing the amount of acid released into the stomach.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as advised by the doctor or stated on the label. Swallow the capsule or tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Follow the recommended timing in relation to meals.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach pain, gas, diarrhoea or constipation.

Precautions
Seek medical advice for persistent symptoms, difficulty swallowing, repeated vomiting, unexplained weight loss, vomiting blood or black stools. Tell the doctor about other medicines being taken, especially clopidogrel, blood thinners, seizure medicines or medicines for HIV. Long-term use should be medically monitored.
