What is it used for?
Olmisartan 40 mg is used to treat high blood pressure. Controlling blood pressure helps reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney problems.

How does it work?
It blocks the action of a substance called angiotensin II, which normally narrows blood vessels. This helps the blood vessels relax and lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow with water and do not stop it without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, nausea and diarrhoea may occur. Contact a doctor if side effects are severe or persistent.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, dehydration, or medicines and supplements that increase potassium. Blood pressure, kidney function and potassium levels may need monitoring. Do not use during pregnancy; inform the doctor immediately if pregnancy occurs. Seek urgent medical help for swelling of the face, lips or throat or difficulty breathing.
