What is it used for?
Olmesartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Controlling blood pressure helps reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney problems.

How does it work?
It blocks the action of a hormone that narrows blood vessels. This helps the blood vessels relax, allowing blood to flow more easily and lowering blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not stop treatment or change the dose without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, diarrhoea, nausea and tiredness may occur. Contact a doctor if side effects are severe or persistent.

Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy, especially after the first trimester, unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, dehydration, or if taking medicines or supplements that may increase potassium. Blood pressure, kidney function and potassium levels may need monitoring. Seek urgent medical help for swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat or difficulty breathing.
