What is it used for?
Ondansetron is used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting, including nausea and vomiting related to surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

How does it work?
It blocks serotonin signals that can trigger nausea and vomiting in the brain and digestive system.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. It may be taken with or without food. Do not take more or use it for longer than advised. If using a dissolving tablet, follow the pack instructions for placing it on the tongue.

Common side effects
Headache, constipation, diarrhoea, tiredness and dizziness.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is a history of irregular heartbeat, long QT syndrome, low potassium or magnesium levels, liver disease, or an allergy to ondansetron. Seek medical help for fainting, a fast or irregular heartbeat, severe allergic symptoms, or symptoms such as agitation, sweating, fever, muscle stiffness or diarrhoea, especially when taking other medicines that affect serotonin. Ondansetron should not be used with apomorphine.
