Permathin Oint (30Gm) Permethrin 5% by Elder

What is it used for?
Permethrin 5% is a skin treatment used mainly to treat scabies, a mite infestation that causes intense itching and a rash. It should be used only for the condition it has been prescribed or recommended for.

How does it work?
It kills scabies mites and their eggs by affecting their nervous system. It acts mainly on the skin.

How to take/use it
For external use only. Apply it exactly as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Avoid the eyes, mouth and other sensitive areas, and wash hands after use unless the hands are being treated. Do not use more often or for longer than recommended.

Common side effects
Temporary itching, redness, burning, stinging, tingling or mild skin irritation may occur. Itching can continue for some time after scabies has been treated.

Precautions
Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes, and rinse well with water if contact occurs. Do not apply to severely irritated or broken skin unless advised by a healthcare professional. Stop use and seek medical advice if severe irritation, swelling or an allergic reaction occurs. Seek medical advice before use in young children, during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Treating close household or sexual contacts and washing recently used clothes, towels and bedding may be advised to help prevent reinfection.
