What is it used for?
Pregabalin is mainly used to relieve nerve pain, such as burning, shooting or tingling pain caused by diabetes, shingles or other nerve damage. It may also be prescribed with other medicines for certain seizures and, in some cases, anxiety.

How does it work?
It reduces the release of certain pain and excitatory signals in the nervous system by acting on calcium channels in nerve cells.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and swallow the capsule whole with water. It may be taken with or without food. Do not stop it suddenly; the dose should be reduced gradually under medical supervision.

Common side effects
Dizziness, sleepiness, blurred vision, headache, dry mouth, constipation, tiredness, difficulty concentrating, increased appetite, weight gain and swelling of the hands or feet.

Precautions
Avoid driving or operating machinery until its effects are known. Avoid alcohol, as it may increase sleepiness and dizziness. Tell the doctor about kidney problems, breathing problems, heart failure, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Pregabalin can cause dependence or misuse in some people. Seek urgent medical help for severe breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, a serious rash, or thoughts of self-harm. Extra caution is needed with opioid painkillers or other medicines that cause drowsiness.
