What is it used for?
Pregabalin is mainly used to treat nerve pain, such as pain caused by diabetes, shingles or nerve injury. It may also be used with other medicines to help control certain partial seizures.

How does it work?
It reduces the release of chemical signals in the nervous system that cause nerve pain and seizures.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food, and swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not stop it suddenly; the dose usually needs to be reduced gradually under medical guidance. Avoid driving or using machinery until its effects are known.

Common side effects
Dizziness, sleepiness, blurred or double vision, tiredness, headache, dry mouth, constipation, swelling of the hands or feet, increased appetite and weight gain.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney problems, breathing problems, heart failure, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Pregabalin may cause dependence or withdrawal symptoms if stopped suddenly. Avoid alcohol and use caution with opioid painkillers or other sedatives, as excessive sleepiness and breathing problems may occur. Seek urgent help for facial or throat swelling, severe breathing difficulty, or thoughts of self-harm.
