What is it used for?
Piperacillin + tazobactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin and soft tissues, and other body areas. It is used only when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
Piperacillin kills bacteria by blocking the formation of their protective cell wall. Tazobactam helps protect piperacillin from enzymes made by some bacteria, allowing it to work against a wider range of infections.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection and kidney function. Complete the prescribed course unless the doctor advises otherwise.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, headache, rash, and pain or redness at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Do not use it without medical advice if there is an allergy to penicillin, other beta-lactam antibiotics, or any of its ingredients. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea, bleeding or clotting problems, or other medicines being used. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
