What is it used for?
Piracetam is mainly used to help control cortical myoclonus, a condition causing sudden, involuntary muscle jerks. It should be used only under medical supervision.

How does it work?
Its exact mechanism is not fully understood. It is believed to influence nerve-cell membrane function and communication between nerve cells.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food. Do not change the dose or stop treatment suddenly, especially when it is being used for myoclonus.

Common side effects
Nervousness, irritability, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, drowsiness, headache, nausea, stomach discomfort or diarrhoea may occur.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about kidney disease, a history of brain bleeding, bleeding problems, or planned surgery. Extra caution may be needed if taking blood thinners or medicines that affect bleeding. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if specifically advised by a doctor. Seek medical help if unusual bleeding or worsening involuntary movements occur.
