What is it used for?
Piroxicam is used to relieve pain, swelling and stiffness caused by inflammatory joint conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

How does it work?
It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces the production of substances responsible for pain and inflammation.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed and follow the instructions for the supplied formulation. Do not use more than recommended or for longer than advised. Do not combine it with other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or diclofenac, unless directed by a healthcare professional.

Common side effects
Indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and skin rash.

Precautions
Piroxicam can cause stomach ulcers or bleeding and may affect the kidneys or heart. Avoid it if there is a history of NSAID allergy, stomach ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding unless specifically advised. Tell the healthcare professional about kidney, liver or heart problems, high blood pressure, asthma, pregnancy or use of blood thinners. Seek urgent medical help for black stools, vomiting blood, severe allergic reactions, chest pain or breathing difficulty.
