What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the ears, throat, sinuses, chest, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall, which stops the infection from growing.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by a doctor. Prepare the suspension with water exactly as directed on the label or by the pharmacist. Shake well before each use and measure with an oral syringe or measuring spoon. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not use leftover antibiotics or share this medicine.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache. Skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any previous allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins, penicillins or other antibiotics. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, blood or mucus in stools, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash. Use only for a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection.
