What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, sinuses, ears, chest, urinary tract and skin. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from forming their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Disperse the tablet in water as directed on the product label before taking it. Do not share leftover antibiotics with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache. Mild skin rash may also occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins or certain penicillin-type antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, previous antibiotic-related severe diarrhoea, or pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, a severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
