What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, sinuses, lungs, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from forming their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the recommended times, and complete the full course even if symptoms improve. Swallow with water. Do not share this antibiotic or use leftover medicine.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion and headache may occur. Mild rash can also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins, penicillins or other antibiotics. Inform the doctor if there is kidney disease, as dose adjustment may be needed. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, blood in the stool, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash. Use only when prescribed for a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection.
