What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the ear, throat, sinuses, chest, urinary tract and skin. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from forming their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by the doctor. Reconstitute the powder with water exactly as directed on the label, shake the suspension well before each use, and measure it with the supplied measuring device. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache may occur. Mild rash can also occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporin antibiotics or certain penicillin-type antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use only for the infection prescribed and follow the storage instructions on the label.
