What is it used for?
This is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not work against viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

How does it work?
Cefpodoxime stops susceptible bacteria from forming their protective cell wall. Potassium clavulanate helps protect cefpodoxime from enzymes made by some bacteria, improving its antibacterial activity.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the tablet with water and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not take leftover antibiotics or share this medicine with others.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and headache may occur. Mild skin rash can also occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there is a known allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins, penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea or any history of serious medicine allergy. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash or persistent or bloody diarrhoea.
