What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime with potassium clavulanate is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the throat, sinuses, chest, urinary tract, skin or soft tissues, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not work for viral infections such as the common cold or flu.

How does it work?
Cefpodoxime kills susceptible bacteria by disrupting their cell wall. Potassium clavulanate helps protect cefpodoxime from enzymes made by some bacteria, improving its antibacterial activity.

How to take/use it
Take this medicine exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the tablet with water and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share it with others or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain or indigestion, headache, and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins, penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Inform the doctor about kidney disease, previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use only for a confirmed or strongly suspected bacterial infection as advised by a doctor.
