What is it used for?
Povidone iodine solution is a topical antiseptic used to disinfect the skin and help prevent infection in minor cuts, grazes, wounds and burns. It may also be used to prepare the skin before certain medical procedures.

How does it work?
It releases iodine, which kills or reduces many types of bacteria, viruses and fungi on the skin.

How to take/use it
For external use only. Clean the affected area, apply the solution as directed by a doctor or pharmacist, and allow it to dry. Do not swallow it or use it in the eyes, mouth or other body openings.

Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, redness, dryness or itching may occur. Stop using it and seek medical help if severe irritation or an allergic reaction develops.

Precautions
Avoid use if allergic to povidone iodine or iodine-containing products. Do not use repeatedly over large areas, for prolonged periods, or on deep or serious wounds unless advised by a healthcare professional. Use with medical advice if there is thyroid disease, kidney disease, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Keep out of reach of children.
