What is it used for?
Prazosin is used to lower high blood pressure (hypertension). It may be prescribed for other conditions only when specifically directed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It blocks alpha-1 receptors in blood vessels, causing them to relax and widen. This reduces resistance to blood flow and lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the extended-release tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew or break it. Stand up slowly, especially when starting treatment or after a dose change. Do not stop it without medical advice.

Common side effects
Dizziness, light-headedness, headache, drowsiness, weakness, nausea and palpitations may occur, particularly when starting treatment.

Precautions
The medicine can cause a sudden fall in blood pressure or fainting, especially after the first dose or when standing up. Avoid driving or alcohol until its effects are known. Tell the doctor about other blood-pressure medicines or erectile-dysfunction medicines, as the combination may cause excessive low blood pressure. Inform the doctor before cataract surgery and seek medical advice for severe dizziness, fainting or a fast heartbeat.
