What is it used for?
Prazosin extended-release is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It may be used alone or with other blood pressure medicines as prescribed.

How does it work?
It relaxes and widens blood vessels by blocking alpha-1 receptors. This helps blood flow more easily and lowers blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the extended-release tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew or split it. Do not stop treatment without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Dizziness, light-headedness, headache, drowsiness, weakness, nausea and palpitations may occur, especially when starting treatment or increasing the dose.

Precautions
It can cause a sudden fall in blood pressure or fainting, particularly after the first dose or when standing up. Rise slowly and avoid driving or operating machinery if dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol and medicines for erectile dysfunction may worsen low blood pressure. Tell the doctor before cataract surgery and report fainting, severe dizziness or a fast heartbeat.
