What is it used for?
Norethisterone is a progestogen hormone medicine used to treat heavy or painful periods, irregular menstrual bleeding and endometriosis. It may also be prescribed to delay a period.

How does it work?
It acts like the natural hormone progesterone and helps control changes in the womb lining and menstrual cycle.

How to take/use it
Take the tablets exactly as prescribed, at the recommended times, and swallow them with water. The dose and treatment duration depend on the condition being treated. It is not a reliable contraceptive.

Common side effects
Nausea, headache, breast tenderness, bloating, mood changes and spotting or changes in menstrual bleeding.

Precautions
Do not take it if pregnant unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor before use if there is a history of blood clots, liver disease, unexplained vaginal bleeding, migraine or hormone-sensitive cancer. Seek urgent medical help for sudden chest pain, breathlessness, severe headache, vision changes or painful swelling in a leg.
